The fourth Kerry Wild Bee Festival took place at Tralee Bay Wetlands over the weekend, and this corner of Kerry showed once again how seriously it takes its nature. This year's theme was community resilience with the help of pollinators.
Groups from right across our patch took part: Castlegregory Tidy Towns, Ballybunion Nature Group and Tralee Tidy Towns shared what their communities are doing for wild bees, there were workshops on recognising Ireland's wild bee species, nature art sessions, and fruit trees were planted for pollinators along the Tralee to Fenit Greenway.
Tralee Bay Wetlands is a short drive from all of our homes and a lovely half-day out with children: boardwalk trails, a viewing tower and boat trips through the reed beds. The wildlife theme continues at Lough Gill by Castlegregory, where our own Lake House shares a shore with swans and the rare natterjack toad.
